The Darkness

When night fell I was heading to the hospital, after which I would probably drop by the station and ask for time shifts. When I got to the hospital,I ran for her room. When I got there she was under the covers screaming, I quickly went to her side. "It's ok, I'm here!" I told her as I tried to hold her and calm her down.

Hearing his voice I stopped screaming and brought the covers down a little bit so I could see his face to make sure it was him. I stared without seeing at first then as I calmed down I flung myself at him enveloping him in a giant bearhug. "I'm so glad you came back.... I was so worried you weren't going to." Now I calmed down as I was actually able to breath sitting in John's strong arms.

When she hugged me, my body ached to hug her back, to make sure she was ok. But I couldn't. My mouth dried and I wanted to- I wanted to- I simply couldn't think of such a thing, I was a Cop, I was to enforce law, not break it.

I looked up at him and smiled as I blushed releasing him from my vise grip. I sat back in the bed and asked "so how was your sleep Jphn?" Pulling the covers back over me.

I smiled and laughed a little. "Umm, could have been better." I remembered waking up on the cold floor. Man was I stiff, never doing that again. I looked to her with a warm smile. "Want me to take you home?"

"I.... wouldn't mind getting out of this place thank you." I answered him. I got up from the bed and waited until he got up and then I made the bed. "Ok.." I said. "I'm ready to leave." And with that I walked out of the room.

I followed her to a T encase she decided to fall over again. I guided her out of the Hospital, paying for the feels and signing her papers I escorted her to my car and opened the passenger side for her.

I sat down in the passenger side and felt relieved. Also very tired as I had barely managed to sleep before that nightmare. I leaned my head on the cool car window and waited for him to get in his side and start driving. I looked out the window at the scenery without really seeing it as I was just ready to go to bed.

I blanked out as much noise as I could. This was all so new to me, I couldn't understand if I was dreaming, or having one messed up nightmare.
The Only noise I couldn't stop was the slow beating of her heart as I drove down the streets till we arrived at her apart. I stopped right in front, I sat there, my eye's focused on her.

Still staring out the window looking at nothing in particular I never noticed we were at my house until I finally looked around. I saw him staring at me and smiled as I realized he was waiting for me to get out. "Thank you John..." I said as I opened the passenger door. I sat there for a couple minutes thinking to myself that I may never see him again.... and then I said "Thanks for everything. You've been wonderful.... see you.... sometime." And I got out and closed the door and walked upto my doorstep. Taking te key out I unlocked the door and looked back at John. Then I walked into my house closing the door behind me.

I watched her leave, I watched her as she went inside. Still I sat there in my car,wondering if I should go in after her. But I sat there, staring out into the road,empty eyed and wondering. What was stronger, my sense of wanting to be with someone, or to drink their blood?

As I walked around in my house I was really tired but couldn't sleep. I kept looking out the window and he was there still.... what was he waiting for? I wondered... should I go find out? Or will he just leave soon? I sat down in my chair and thought about him. He was so kind to me even though he didn't know me... why? Was he just doing his job? I drifted off to sleep on that note... thinking of him the whle time.

I saw her sleeping in the window, I smiled and laughed lightly. I drove off slowly not to make much noise to wake her.

I got home in minutes, taking anice long shower. I cleared my thoughts. I sat in my kitchen,looking at a bowl of fruit,grabbing an apple. I bite into it,immediately I spat the the peices and hissed in pain. The taste was like ashes in my mouth,rotted and full of disgusting maggots. yet the apple looked perfectly fine.

It was my mind telling me it was wrong for my body, the only thing that was right, was blood.

I stirred as I sat there dreaming of his touch... his eyes and smile... just dreaming of him in general. Then I suddenly awoke and looked outside... he was gone. I cried to myself wondering if I was going to see him again as I went to my bedroom and slowly drifted off to sleep again. I awoke bright and early the next morning thinking of the day before. I walked outside to look for him but he was no where to be seen. My heart sank and I went through the day doing all the normal things shopping, running, work... until my shift was over. It was always dark by the time my shift was over but I always liked to sit outside the cafe I worked at sitting at a table and look up into the stars. They were so beautiful I never noticed the time. I guess it must've been around 11 by the time I started to walk home and insanely dark.

I always had to cross this alley when I was going home and tonight was no exception. I hated crossing it because it was always so dark especially tonight since it was later than usual. As I was walking by I heard some foot prints behind me but every time I looked back no one was there. Terrified and my heart racing I started to run but then saw them.... a group of about 5 of them all heading towards me cornering me into the alley. The one I guessed was in chage came up to the front and said "Why look what we got here. A nice young lady and she's all alone just begging for us. What do you say guys?" They all agreed and I started to cry getting in a ball in the corner begging them not to do anything and began screaming for help but noone was there to hear. The guys all laughed and the leader said "Well looks like y'aint got nobody to help you missy. Now shut up or you won't like the consequences." With that I screamed one last time then shut my mouth crying silently to myself as the guys were advancing on me....

"If you touch her, I'll tare you apart." I whispered as I was standing next to one of the men in a matter of seconds. I was in the neighborhood getting my paperwork done when I heard the scream seven blocks away. I used what un-natural speed to get myself there as soon as possible.

I had my hand clasped harsh around the neck of a guy. snapping it in a second I threw his body away like a rag doll. "Anyone else wants to die tonight?" I whispered to them in a low growl. My eye's burning bright red, my fangs out as my claws grew to. I was furious, I was angered and wanting to kill. I wanted to feast on one of them.

My hand shot out again,yanking one of them closer to me, I cracked his head back and tore out his throat with my teeth and began devouring his blood.

Already curled up in the corner I was shaking as I watched the scene. John was there so fast... how did he hear my scream? Then I completely broke down crying head in hands. That had been the scariest event of my life but I was so thankful to John for this! I tried calming down knowing John was in control of the situation but I couldn't keep the terror out of my eyes watching him kill these men. I stood up on very wobbly legs and ran out of the alley into the light of the street lights and collapsed on the ground in tears of terror and joy.

I killed a good number of them before leaving the unconcious ones knocked out on the ground, I had hoped to kill them as well but I was unsure it would be morally right for me as a cop to take life in such a manner. then I realized, I was'nt human anymore, their rules did'nt apply to me.

I left the alleyway to find her on the ground crying, I quietly scooped her off the ground,in my arms and walked her home. "You ok?" I whispered softly to her as I held her close.

I was shaking in his arms and then nestled closer to him as he carried me still crying and laid my head on his shoulder. Taking a shaky breath I said "I'm fine... thanks to you." I looked up at him and smiled. "How did you hear me anyway? You weren't even around the alley." Then I remembered what he was and the question seemed kind of foolish. "where have you been all night? I was looking for you..... uhm but couldn't find you...."

I sighed and smiled a little, she did know what I was. "I was at the police station changing some paperwork for my night job." I looked down at her, stopping at a nearby park bench I sat her down,taking out some kleenex I wiped her tears away and handed her a small pack full of them. "Want me to walk you home?" I asked with a smile on my lips?

I had to smile at his response. It seemed as if he knew that I knew about him. When we stopped on the bench I tried to smile a bit. "Yes.... I'd like for you to walk me home very much thank you.... but I don't want to be a bother." With that I looked away from his face and into the park that we were sitting near. "If you need to get going...because of your job I completely understand" I said whie still not meeting him eye to eye.

I sat next to her, watching her with an intense stare, my eye's wouldn't stop focusing. I wanted to grab hold of her, sink my teeth into her neck and drink every drop I could suckle. But the human law enforcer screams at me not to.

Screw my sanity, i'll endure if it kills me!

Looking back at him I saw him staring at me. I looked him in the eyes and started to blush. I wanted to be near him but wasn't sure of how he was feeling at the moment. I got up and ran to the swings near the park and started swinging to take my mind off of him and what had happened. This is what I usually did to think through things.

I saw her run to the swings as I sat there in thought. My mind wandered as well,as well as my hunger as she stayed a distance from me. I smiled as I leaned back and looked to the dark skies, soon it would be sunlight and I would have to hide,to sleep in a coma like state, forever repeating this cycle.

I sighed and looked to her as she swung back and fourth playfully like a child. I closed my eye's and smiled, I was almost laughing at this point.

Having my fun swinging I had almost forgot that John was sitting there. Then I looked over at him and started to giggle as I continued to swing. "Do I look like a child swinging like this? It's fun... you should join me." And I continued swinging smiling from ear to ear as I watched him. He seemed to be taking an interest in the sky... or maybe he was just enjoying the night either way I wanted him to have some fun. he seemed like the kind of guy that didn't take the time to stop and smell the roses and I intended to get him to.

I laughed lightly when she asked me to join, and I did. Though it felt awkward at first, a grown man swinging on a swing and such. But I sat down on the seat and sway gently back and fourth. My eye's on her intently so, I couldn't look away. She smelled so lovely even from a lengthy distance from swing to swing. "Tell me...You know what I am,don't you..." I whispered.
